Dr. Bryant's book is a wonderful resource containing the historical account of the settlement of the wilderness basin at the confluence of the Alabama, Tombigbee and Tensaw rivers and that area's influence on the Southern states. This area was the original home of the Alabamus Lower Creek Indians.

Unrest came into the Tensaw Country when the Tory Loyalists, who were being displaced after the Revolutionary War, began to settle in the area.

The book deals with the historical significance of the Creek Indian wars as it related to the opening of the area for early settlers. The international impact this area had in the formative period of 1800-1820 may surprise you.

Fifteen years of research by Dr. Bryant reveals information heretofore untold in any other compilation of the frontier. Medicines, dialects, recipes, religion, modes of transportation, property ownership plats, frontier humor, and compilations of genealogy of these early settlers are found in these pages.

The young will enjoy the chapter on childhood games, rhymes, riddles, and fun things of the yesteryears. Adults will appreciate the dance and music titles, quilting names, and the ancient jokes the settlers told on and of themselves. Weather forecasting signs and the superstitions of yore may bring a chuckle.
